Krass Judgement, Needless Guilt, Kaemon

April 8, 2005

Fredericksburg's Kaemon opened things with a thrash/groove influenced heavy metal set reminding me of Pro-Pain at times.  The female vox did not appear until the last two songs.  The crowd was already very large by opening standards.

Needless Guilt filled the 2nd spot and their hardcore style featured plenty of guitar solos.  Nice set with excellent clear sound.  Crowd still growing.

Jaxx stalwarts Krass Judgement were enthusiastically greeted by their fans and the almost now capacity crowd.   The opening doom riff was quite impressive and soon led to a full on thrash assault.  This bands has riffs galore and a tremendous sound!  Another in a long line of hi-quality Jaxx local talent.

Abraham's Meat Plow were making their first appearance at Jaxx and to say they were greeted warmly would be a huge understatement.  The floor was now thoroughly packed and this Hillbilly Hardcore Quintet had the mosh pit crowd working up a sweat.  Very professional band with tremendous energy and a charismatic frontman.  Expect to see more of them in the future!

A.M.P. are due back at Jaxx on June 4th opening for Testament, another "must see" show this year.

The Overkill merchandise counter did a brisk business most of the night.

Ecliptic changed things up with some exceptionally well played progressive death metal.  Great melodies stood in stark contrast to the dissonant vocals.  Another highly talented local group.

This group of Overkill fans traveled almost 2 hours from Lexington Park and Calvert County, Maryland to see their favorite band and spend some hard earned cash on merchandise.

Overkill gather for a pic subsequent to a lengthy sound check.  Overkill went to the extra expense of flying in their sound manager from their European Tours, Claire Shearsby, and she did an excellent job.  Loud and clear all night.  From L-R are Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth (vox), Tim Mallare (drums), D. D. Verni (bass), Dave Linsk (guitar) and Derek Tailer (guitar).

Overkill opened with "Within Your Eyes"  from their latest release ReliXIV - pronounced "Relics 14".   Absolutely great opener!

These thrash metal icons had the now capacity throng soon in a sonic frenzy.

Gutter fanatics said "Hello" to Overkill with conviction all night long!   "Elimination" never sounded so good.

"Fuck You"  - and then some!  There was plenty of good natured finger pointing all night long as Overkill performed many of their classic tunes.

Bobby lost his shirt for the lengthy encore lasting till almost 2 am.

Overkill love playing at Jaxx and made this the first stop of their quick April Tour of the US before heading off to Europe.  They show no signs of slowing down after 20 years in the business and 14 releases.  Both 2003's "Killbox 13"  and 2005's "ReliXIV" are  absolutely killer CD's and highly recommended by yours truly.   The thrash assault on Jaxx continues soon with Germany's Kreator in May and the almighty Testament playing two dates in June with all 5 original members.  Do not miss either of these shows or regret it forever!
