The Autumn Offering Day of Descent
May 9, 2005
Day of Descent kicked things off in fine fashion at 8 PM for a very patient crowd who had to wait till 7 for a delayed door opening. Their post grunge sludge-hardcore blend was well played and unique. Kind of like Acid Bath meets Killswitch Engage with a few doom riffs on the side.
DOD played a well received 40 minute set and generated great crowd response throughout. Watch out for this band as they mature and look for them at Jaxx in the future.
The Autumn Offering, from Daytona Beach, FL, join the ever increasing number of US Melodic Hardcore groups. Swedish styled riffs and chunky breakdowns marked their lively and energetic performance.
Check out a couple of their songs on Pure Volume here. Damn good band! Their new CD, "Revelations of the Unsung" is now available.
Kreator hit the stage just before 10 PM and the fog machine was working overtime. While it makes for great effects while your watching the show, flash camera's don't like it much so I was forced to wait until later for many of the shots when the machine ran out of fog. I think it ran out anyway.
Kreator frontman Mille Petrozza was his usual loquacious self and played to the crowd all night. While Kreator were at the end of a long tour, you would never know it from the performance this night. It's easy to see why these guys are thrash legends. Very, very professional.
Enemy of God is the name of the tour and also Kreator's latest release. In my humble opinion, it's their best album ever - and they have a lot of great albums! Songs played from the new album included Enemy of God, Suicide Terrorist, Impossible Brutality and the incredible Voices of the Dead.

Lead axeman Sami Yli-Sirniö did some serious shredding. Very impressive and the kind of stuff that makes one appreciate a live up close show.
Sami appears to be either wondering what the next song is or making a mental note to chat with the blonde in front after the show. Just kidding Sami !
Kreator also played Reconquering The Throne, Violent Revolution and All Of The Same Blood from 2001's Violent Revolution album.
Christian "SPEESY" Giesler on bass guitar. He's been with the band 10 years and is the proud owner of 7 motorcycles. The one I saw a picture of looked real fast - not a Harley. Thanks to the new Jaxx wireless LAN now available at the club, he was able to chat with his girlfriend in Germany before the show.
The night would not be complete without Pleasure To Kill, the classic from way back in '86.
Great turnout of fans considering it was a Monday night and Jaxx has had several solid weeks of top notch shows. It was a minor miracle anyone had any money left to spend. But Kreator appreciated the turnout and responded in kind. The nights only bummer was the late cancellation of Vader due to transportation breakdown. We look forward to seeing them later this year on the Death Metal extravaganza headlined by Suffocation.
