Local favorites Cab Ride Home are playing that show. They always draw a great crowd. If you like beer-brewed Virginia metal you'll love these guys. Hit them up on their MySpace page for tickets, or send me a message and I can have one of the guys contact you to arrange ticket purchases.  You will be helping one of our favorite local bands if you do.  Cool

Jay actually owned it for awhile, he was going to knock part of the wall out between the 2 buildings and make it a non-smoking room (this was quite awhile ago of course), but they discovered there was a firewall between the 2 buildings and they weren't allowed to breach it.

Being that I AM a smoker, I'm not happy about the ban either, but its the law. Arguing with the club employees only makes for an uglier situation. They don't make the laws, they just follow them. If they allow smoking in the lounge on certain nights for certain shows, thank them instead of bitching. They could just ban it altogether instead of giving us smokers a break every once in a while. Hell, I'm bringin a can of Skoal to the show. I can do that for one night, or I can suck it up and not smoke for a few hours. Until the gov of va changes the law we are stuck with it. I'm sure there are Jaxx staff who smoke also, and they have to put up with this as much as we do. So stop griping. If you don't like it, don't go. I do have one question though. Do the band members get to smoke, or are they in the same boat as us? Thanks for your time and any accomodations that have been made at anytime. A long time Jaxx patron, Don

Tuesday night I saw Skrymer smoke like half a pack outside before the show haha.

But I haven't seen any band member smoke inside.

Jesus don, long timer maybe but first post and being a suckup already?? Read my posts. I DO NOT BLAME JAXX, I BLAME THE LAW. I AM VENTING! As for thanking them for allowing smoking on certain nights, sure but I just dont understand how it can be against the law some nights and not others ... just sayin.

You're right, dont like it dont go. Thats my plan, weigh each nite out and judge whats important to me. Tues I got there just as GJ went on, helped them load up, hung out outside with them awhile and left for hom. I bought one drink the whole time. I know my single drinking hbits wont make or break Jaxx, just hope everyones not doing that or liquor sales will go down (not just jaxx) and I think it highly unfair for the gov to make lifestyle laws that may cut a business owners profits, especially in a rough economy.

I only knew one band wed but from what I saw they cant smoke inside, difference is they are allowed re-entry. How do the bands get treated? Maybe the headliners do ok, I dont think others were real happy with the place/certain employees.

Boy remember the good ole days, you'd go to a concert and only time you'd bother cupping your joint was when the security walked by, and cigs, hell no one cared, they knew you needed that nice sweet 'boro after the joint Smiley

The times they have a cahnged.

Pazo dont snitch out the roadie, I'm happy some people are fighting the system (again, by that I do not mean jaxx, I mean gov intruding on our life choices)

Not trying to be a suckup or anything like that, just thats how I write instead talking. Everything kinda flows out and its a couple of paragraphs before I know it. I know that you aren't blaming them, just blowing off frustration, I had to kinda compose myself(referring to the law) before I started writing.  I think what I probably should have said was that if they are willing to "bend the rules" a litlle, I am all for it, I just don't want to give them any reason not to do that, is all. Sorry if I got the message across the wrong way. Im longwinded like that.  Anyways, I will probably suck it up and bring dip with me. Not exactly what I like to use, but it does take care of the nic fix. Again, not trying to make enemies, we are all inthe same boat, so no reason to rock it.

Yeah I get you, its a touchy subject for all of us I think. I thought of that snus stuff they're bringing out but just cant do it, first off one tobacco habit is enough for me and second I'm a chick, a tough chick who already gets mistaken for a lesbian because I'm not a teeheecheerleader type or even the metal slut groupie type, but the dont give a shit about the clothes type. Torn camos are great for metal shows and my skull clunker boots are just too cool not to wear so I guess that makes me gay, LOL Now just imagine I add to that a big ole chaw in my lip! I shouldnt care I guess but the clothes are things that make me comfortable, I dont think snus or snuff fits that category for me.

Oh yeah, let me be PC again so I wont piss anyone off, Got nothing against gay people but I'm not one and I just hate when people assume I am. Hell not sure why it matters anyway unless they want to pick me up in which case, have balls and ask Smiley Oh yeah, there's the rude talk and rough attitude as well Smiley so if theyre trying to pick me up, Im there for the music not to get laid so hope they dont get offended when I tell them to fuck off, LOL

but the gay thing is a whole nuther issue we can fight and argue about if we all get tired of this one heck bet we could come up with a bunch of them! Remember the day when metal brought everyone together? Back when all metalheads were outcasts so we banded together, didnt matter if you smoked or not, druggies and nonusers didnt judge each other by their habits, things like politics didnt come up, race wasnt an issue, not many blacks were into it but I think the ones that were were easily accepted and maybe even a bit admired. The gay thing wasnt really open then too much but there were a few and the metalheads I knew didnt judge them for that. It was only the music that mattered.

So what happened? I guess after banding together and forming a community of our own human nature took over and we had to start creating a class system of our own. There wasn't just metal anymore, it got split into sub-genres like thrash, Glam, speed, etc and the fans of each separated themselves and considered "their metal" being best and the rest sucked. They started tossing insults at the other fan groups - "Poison suxx, glam is for fags" "Thrash is no talent noise for neanderthals" and so on. And that leads to where we are now. I miss "Metal" Sad dont you dare ask what kind of metal!

See I'm long winded too, very sleep deprived right now, somewhere around 67hrs with  only 3hrs of sleep (no drugs) It does resemble drugs for me though and since I'm mostly clean its almost fun. The mind goes strange places, gets philisophical, contemplates strange things, gets nostalgic and even convinces itself it knows how to fix the world, a bit of fun but now I guess I'll sleep a couple hours anyway and regain a bit of reality!

Understood, when I first got a taste for Metal, Judas Priest was always on DC101,83-84,been hooked ever since.I think Rob Halford really broke down the barriers of only straight people listening to Metal. IMASMF, I have an extra Overkill meet n greet ticket, co-worker bailed on me, for April 30th. Its up for grabs if you want it, no charge, no catch.

Wow that is awesome of you! I'd like to take you up on it but I'm a 2hr ride away so I really only make the trip for my must see bands. I like Overkill but not a must see. I'd rather see you find someone thats a real fan, like years and years, every album etc. and would just be blown away by that. Make someones night! Smiley The offer is much appreciated!
