God knows smoking a cigarette in public is SO MUCH MORE offensive than seeing someone get stinking drunk and beligerent. Like everyone else has said, this is not an attack on Jaxx, but our JACKASS governor who took it upon himself to restrict a source of federal taxation. Guess they'll NEVER ban drinking in eating establishments, wouldn't wanna offend anyone.

It always amazes me how hard it can be to give away a free ticket! Been there a few times when people have backed out on me. So much that I'm now at the point I buy my one ticket and thats it, someone else decides they want to go they're welcome to ride but they get their own ticket. Hope you find someone, if nothing else get there a bit early and catch someone outside maybe?

Total agreement on your smoking/drinking statement. Guess people will say the smoking is a danger to their health and drinking isn't. May be true up to the point the drunk gets behind the wheel.

I'm from Jersey, and we've had the smoking ban here for nearly four years now (New York has had it longer though).  At first, it took a lot of adjusting, but in the end it's actually pretty nice.  I've been a smoker 17 years now, but just because I smoke doesn't mean I want to at any opportunity I have.  It's actually pretty nice to be able to go outside and get some fresh air while enjoying a cigarette and also nice to exit the club without reeking like an ashtray.  After a while, you just get used to it, like everything else that changes in life.

Not for nothing, anybody in the area that has went to the Merriweather-Post Pavillion in Columbia, MD knows that it's an outdoor venue AND doesn't allow smoking anywhere on their grounds!!  Found that out the hard way last year at the M3 Rock Festival, but it wasn't so bad as long as you don't think about it.

I was actually quite thrilled to hear that Jaxx is now a non-smoking venue, as last time I was there, it was still a smoking venue.  I assumed it was smoke-free on my last visit and brought my girlfriend along who suffers with asthma.  She started having difficulty breathing and when notifying the staff at the front door, they were more than accommdating with the situation.  They let us stay in the car (which was visible from the venue door, regardless) until OverKill was about to hit the stage.  The doorgirl even offered her inhaler if need be, as she suffered from asthma as well.

Looking forward to yet another great visit to Jaxx on Friday!!

Agreed, I like to go outside and grab a smoke at a show. Got used to that out on the sunset strip, and The National in Richmond, no big deal. Problem is the way Jaxx is setup you're not allowed to go outside and re-enter (except extenuating circumstances like your girls asthma) Again, not blaming Jaxx, blaming government that wants to legislate all aspects of my life. For me it means getting there only for the band I want to see and leaving right after. which means I dont hang out and drink before or after. I know my little amount doesn't matter to a venue but I'm sure others feel the same way and if enough do it can affect a businesses bottom line. I don't think it's right for government to make decisions that can affect a business like that. Especially in a time when many businesses are already having a tough time.

But if we are going to go that far I think it should apply to any strong smells that affect other people. I can not stand to be at a show next to some rocker chick who doused herself with the chanel #5 or whatever or the romeos who pour the whole bottle on. Seriously makes my throat close up and hard to breath, bet your girl has the same thing happen. To me it's the same level so if one then should be all.

Oh and I had no problem smoking all over at M3 last year? Knew better then to fire it up under the pavilion but otherwise no problem. Stood around second stage talking to a security guy before Steel Panther while smoking and nothing said. Probably depends on which Barney Fife sees you.

IMASMF, I couldn't agree with you more, especially with your portion about the strong smells - even should go for body odor...nothing like going to a crowded concert and having somebody next to you that smells like their last shower was the week before.  That'd be a sight to see at the front door - having your ticket scanned and then being handed a can of aerosol deodorant if deemed too foul, haha.
You're also correct about how the government is attempting to legislate all aspects of the public lives.  I always thought that the smoking ban should be partial, especially in bars.  If the bar owner chooses to cater to non-smoking customers, that's their right to make it smoke-free, however if they choose to continue to make it a smoking facility, then that's up to them, not the government.  There's a bar by me that becomes a smoking facility after 11:00 PM.  You have to pay $1.00 to rent an ashtray, but the money goes towards possible future fines (which already happened twice since the ban was implemented).

If there was a way to make the deck out back at Jaxx securely enclosed so that lawsuits could be ultimately avoided, that'd be a win-win for everybody.  One venue by me made an outdoor smoking area by fencing in a section by a fire exit.

Don, thanks again man!  I truly appreciate it!  When I get there, I'll buy you a drink.

No idea, at this point it's best to assume that smoking will NOT be allowed and then if they DO allow it be pleasantly surprised. All ages shows are tough, when everyone is 21 and up it's a bit easier but with no obvious place for people to go other than the lounge which non-smokers may argue about it's not easy to do really at all.

Anyone who wants to smoke in places where its banned... check out Green Smoke's e-cigarettes.  Its nicotine vapor- harmless to bystanders and odorless.  I switched 3 days ago and will never go back to regular cigarettes unless I have to.  Plus, these new cigs with the flame retardant chems give me headaches anyway.  These green smokes are like 20% of the cost and produce a lot of vapor.  And no side effects... like you know, early death.

Waiting to see how it will be with Faster Pussycat and LA Guns. Both Taime and Tracii smoke during their sets.

Bear in mind that famous musicians sometimes don't give a shit about laws or rules

LOL, I was wondering how that would work! Only one I could think of right off was Frankie that plays with Pearcys Rat Bastards, he is rarely seen without a cig in his mouth! From what I hear though even if pearcy does the RB thing again Frankies not playing with them so no worries I guess. I'm curious, I assume artists are told of the laws/rules beforehand, so if they choose to break them and smoke on stage does it somehow violate their contract or anything? Will it affect the possibility of them coming back to Jaxx? I'm not trying to say it should or anything, more power to them if they can get away with it!!! I'm just curious how all the smoking laws are being enforced, not just at Jaxx but all over, different venues and cities.

Djinn - not sure i could bring myself to do the green cig thing, it's just so .... I dunno .... trendy! But I am curious, do they taste like a real cig? Is it just water vapor or is there nicotine in there somehow? For long time smokers we still have the nicotine need! Whether physical, psychological or both it's there! I did give that snus stuff a try because I got a coupon for 4 free packs! Don't like the idea as mouth cancer is much less appealing to me then lung cancer (no one sees your lungs!) but also who wants to see a chick with a chaw in the mouth ya know? I kept an open mind though since it would be nice to have an alternative for shows/restaurants and such. The packets are small enough to not be noticeable and they do have nicotine but still had the urge for a cig! Guess that's the psychological part, something in the hands or for the shrinks out there an oral fixation I guess (no rude comments, please) But the taste was the worst thing! UGGGGGG! Maybe a menthol smoker would like the mint ones but otherwise I can't imagine anyone liking the taste of them! Guess that's what non smokers say about cigs though so maybe it would grow on me if I gave it a chance, I'm thinking these green cigs could be a better option though. See I'm reasonable and looking for options Smiley

Curious, anyone ever lit up one of these e-cigs in a non smoking place and gotten yelled at before you explained what it was?
