*insert generic statement related to OMG HI I R NEW 2 FORUMZ LAWL*

I must admit, seeing the new color scheme on Behemoth night was quite a shock, but after a couple more shows I got used to it. Its actually kinda nice, being able to see my hand in front of my face now and then. While Latin/Dance music itself is not metal at all, staying in business is pretty metal.

Speaking as one of those damn teenagers who only buys a ticket, allow me to put this as lightly as I can... JAXX SERVES FOOD?? I can think of numerous times my friends and I have left a show and been a bit annoyed that the only thing open at 2am is either McDonalds or the kitchen at home. I think if the menu were posted somewhere we could really see it and have a chance to look it over, and perhaps a space to eat it (where did all those tables and chairs go?) that might help.

A Jaxx Facebook page would definitely help. I'm a "Fan" of a few music companies I favor right now, and its very helpful the way they keep us updated on new products, artist interviews, and other stuff. Even if its an artist I don't like or a product I don't care about, the fact that their name is getting into my head probably does something important.

Welcome to the forums :-)

I have started on a FaceBook page, they don't make it easy to do a business site but I'm getting it done LOL.

A place to eat the food is tough if you're under 21, not sure what they can do but we'll see, the way the building is can be limiting. I will also see about posting something in the club that there is food... However... You found the forums on our website, if you look at the other nav links you will see that one is a menu (food menu), it even says Menu on it, that should let people know there is food :-)

Yea, Facebook pages can be a bitch to set up sometimes. Especially when you already have a Facebook account and you're trying to manage your pages. It'd make more sense if you could log out and log in as your page, instead of managing it while you're logged in, since my Page has the same name as my account, so I can't tell who I am posting as *brain explodes*

Huh, you know I saw that menu a couple of times, but for some reason it never really clicked that it was... "real" or something, since once you're at the club there isn't really a place thats like "FOOD IS OVER HERE."

On a similar note, a friend of mine and I had a conversation a while back (in the middle of all the WTF JAXX IS GOIN TECHNO SAV TEH METAWLL rumors) about what we thought might help, and two things we thought would help were opening the bar on non-show nights (we can't drink yet and know nothing about bars around here or competition) which I suppose is similar to the Latin dance night. The other idea we had was club merch. There are 930 club shirts and wristbands and such, I'd wear a Jaxx shirt or buy a Jaxx poster and I'm sure lots of other people would.

Whatever it takes to keep this treasure of a venue open and bringing great metal shows to us (new & old), I'm all for it...paint color be damned!

Even for weeknight shows when I have to work the next day I always try to at least buy a couple of beers to support the club.  I'm all about sacrificing for the greater good :-)

My hat's off to Jay for keeping the scene alive in NoVa!!!

Since I started the thread just wanted to thank all who've commented! I realize a lot of it comes off as whining but hopefully in there Jay & Dave might find a few nuggets that will help.

No solution will make everyone happy but keeping the doors open and some amount of rock/metal shows going on may keep people satisfied.

...... two things we thought would help were opening the bar on non-show nights (we can't drink yet and know nothing about bars around here or competition) which I suppose is similar to the Latin dance night. The other idea we had was club merch. There are 930 club shirts and wristbands and such, I'd wear a Jaxx shirt or buy a Jaxx poster and I'm sure lots of other people would.

Excellent ideas. The Jaxx merch idea has been thrown around a bit before but with no real enthusiasm. We'd have to have a certain number of items in a certain size run in order to accommodate sales, and the three big issues is (a) cost of production, (b) storing inventory, and (c) actual demand. It would cost a bit to have good quality shirts and such made, and that is an overhead cost that can't be supported right now. Storing the items where the bartenders can get to them without the items getting in the way is problematic because the bars have enough stuff behind them as it is, and storing them elsewhere and having someone get them when needed can be touch because we're all super busy on big show nights.  And, in real life novelty logo items don't tend to sell very well unless you're the Hard Rock Cafe franchise. We could sell possibly 25 shirts off the bat when we introduce the products, but when the novelty wears off we're stuck with a lot of stuff we can no longer sell except every now and again. It doesn't really make a lot of financial sense right now. Because really, unless you're staff, how many people do you see wearing 930 Club shirts? They sell their own merch, and at a show people tend to spend that extra $25 on a band shirt instead of a venue shirt.

As for other nights the bar is open, you have to figure operational costs versus money coming into the club. It takes a ton to heat and cool the building, you have to pay personnel, etc. We have acoustic open mic nights on most Tuesdays where just the lounge bar is open and it's a really nice, laid back atmosphere. Unfortunately, this is a 21 and over only event, so if you're under 21 it's not an option.

As for an "area" to order food, it's not possible with the current building configurations. To construct something like a special area to order food (like 930 Club) would facilitate a building reconstruction project that is so cost prohibitive it is not even worth considering. You have to "yell" at the bartenders to get a drink. Just add a burger and fries to that long island iced tea order and you can have your dinner and enjoy a good show.
