Tama and Yamaha both manufacture great drumsets at all price-points, and both of their hardware definitely holds up to the road tests.  Tama Rockstar series or Yamaha Stage Custom series are recommendations for fairly inexpensive sets.  Regarding cymbals, that's a personal preference.  I personally play on Paiste cymbals exclusively, but I have my reasons - Sabian and Zildjian both manufacture excellent cymbals as well.  All three manufacturers have pre-packed cymbal sets.  I'd say if you go that route, go for the Paiste set because tonally they sound the best at that price point.

My father in law is selling his entire Tama set for 375. It could use a few new heads, but as they are now, they are fully functioning, and sound great! Plus, when you wanted to replace them, he could get you a steal of a deal at Guitar center in FFX.

If you wanna see them or try them out, let me know!

Thanks!
