What is the camera policy for Michael Schenker with Lynch Mob and Living Colour going to be?

Thanks

No idea, camera policy is set by the band and will not be known until day of show near door time. Some bands allow anything, some allow only point and shoot and some allow absolutely nothing. As a rule pretty much no one (except Jam Bands) allow any kind of audio or video recording. Best bet is to bring a point and shoot camera and be prepared to maybe have to take it back to the car. You can also, in the future, try emailing the band and asking about it, maybe even ask about photo passes. Worst they could do would be to say no.

I took a "point and shoot" to Jaxx. Had to take it out to my car. Huh

I remember a show a while back (Kamelot?) where the touring acts only allowed film cameras, no digital... I found this out the hard way. Fortunately I was only told to pocket it.

Really? I saw a ton of them last night.  Hell the guy in front of me right in the front row had a video camera and filmed the whole night. Very annoying since he kept blocking my view with it.

It looks like a professional camera, but it is only a "point and shoot". I was as nice as could be, explained that it was a regular camera, no filters or add ons, but had to take it back out. I don't like leaving stuff in my car, especially when I'm traveling long distances to see a band.

it is funny nowadays when bands only allow point and shoot cameras and no video. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't most regular cameras nowadays have video capabilities? Hell even cell phones do. I realize they aren't high quality but I would guess most people are like me and only take pics or vids for their own enjoyment, maybe to put on youtube, but doubt many have thoughts of booting them to make profits? Main reason I like videoing is because I can come home and pull pics off the vid!  I can just viddie one or two songs, knowing I'll get plenty of shots off it and then put the camera away and really enjoy the rest of the show! Plus the fact there's no flash going off in the artists or other fans faces. Never did understand people who use flash from 50ft back, LOL, do they not get they're only lighting up the area right in front of them??

I've video'd most Jaxx shows with my "point & click" and never had a band or Jaxx employee say anything. I do try to be careful and not block anyone's view or get in the artists face. Consideration goes a long way I think! Only time anything was ever said (and it was afterwards) was a Rat Bastards show I video'd, I posted the vids on youtube and was asked to remove one of them. The reason was the sound guy had not locked it in yet on their first song and they didn't like how it sounded. They didn't want that representing them. I understood that and took it down immediately. Other then that only comments I've ever gotten were positive!

I love looking back at my vids and remembering good times!

Shouldn't this thread be in the Ask Jaxx section? Also, it seems to me most bands don't like "professional" cameras, which I think they really mean SLR cameras with detachable lenses. The whole camera policy thing bands have all need to be updated though. They were made when most people didn't have decent cameras or video capabilities, but the policy is out dated like the compact disc. It used to be Jaxx didn't care if we shot video on hand held cameras or phones, but now they seem to be trying to stop that on top of the people with real video rigs. It's a shame these 'rebel' metal bands get so caught up in rules telling their fans what they can't do at shows. You can charge me ~$20 to get in, another $25 for a shirt, but heaven forbid if I shoot some video of you playing my favorite song of yours at the show! You'd think bands would try to give people more reason to want to see their show, not annoy their own fans at the show with stupid rules that don't really do anything anyways, aside from lessen the experience for some of the people in attendance. K, that's it for my rant on the subject.

exactly! I've always felt it should be looked at as free promotion! Guess legalities and stuff play into it nowadays? I did understand RatBastards concerns and was happy to comply with their request. Since then if I can get in touch with a band beforehand or even at the show I ask if I can take shitty vids with my shitty camera! If there's any hesitation I tell them I will be glad to upload to a private URL and let them see them before I let them go public. That has pleased all so far. Only one (not from Jaxx) actually asked me to do that. When I do post I always send the artist a link if I can connect with them, even if they didn't ask.

some singers/bands are basically unreachable though so in that case I just shoot some vid and hope they don't do an Axl Rose on my head! So far so good!

Funniest vid I ever shot was at an Alice Cooper show in FL, very short with a cheap camera. I have Alice framed and signing, then he moves straight at my camera, still singing, looking straight in the lens very evily and doing a "gimmee" sign with his outstretched hand. I laughed, thought he was joking around, came home and put it on youtube and a few days later had a cease & desist from Nightmare Inc! Guess he was serious after all?!?!?!? LOL

Guess like most other things in life it comes down to two things.

1) respect goes a long way and helps keep rules from having to be made
and
2) There's always going to be an asshole out there who will screw up rule #1!

As I say elsewhere, the bands set the policies for the night, if the Jaxx security is cracking down it's because the band asked for it, OR a security guy hadn't gotten the full word on what is allowed and what is not, if asked to stop and you think it's an error then politely go up front and ask at the front desk what is allowed. You may be in the wrong, or he might be, but best to be sure before anyone on either side pitches a fit. (Not saying any of you regular people would of course)
